Meet The Team

Dr. Priya Patel B.D.S.
Priya qualified from King’s College London and went on to practice as a general dental practitioner in the UK, as well as organising and coordinating events for the British Dental Association. She came to visit Australia in 2012, fell in love with it and moved here within a few months.
As well as special interests in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, Priya has a passion for paediatric dentistry: “My special interest in paediatric dentistry arose as I believe that advice and preventative treatment is key to stopping the next generation from facing the same dental problems as us.  As for cosmetic and restorative dentistry, I find great satisfaction in moulding a broken-down tooth into a functional and aesthetic one.  Our smiles are one of the most important ways that we project ourselves to the world – helping to restore them is one of the most satisfying things that you can do.”  She has also completed courses in the restoration of implants and oral sleep appliances for obstructive sleep apnoea.
Priya is fully committed to ensuring a relaxed and friendly environment in which she can offer all of her patients the best quality dentistry.
Elizabeth Brew Oral Health Therapist
Liz was dual trained in Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene.  After working for many years in Central Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory, Liz commenced practicing privately in both Gladstone and Adelaide from 2003.
“People seem to be unsure of the limitations of their oral hygienist and oral therapist – Dental Hygienists are trained to provide treatment to adults and children including root debridement, scales and cleans, fissure sealants and oral health education.  Dental Therapists are trained to provide dental treatment to children from age 4-15 including fillings, extractions of baby teeth, scaling and cleaning and oral health education.”
She endeavours to provide a positive and pleasant experience for patients, with thorough treatments and adapted information according to each individual’s needs, and aims to improve patients’ knowledge of oral health.
“There are so many products out there claiming to help your oral status that it is tricky to know which ones work, or how to use them – as part of their treatment, I go over this with my patients and discuss ways that each individual can make changes.  There is nothing more rewarding than a patient returning for their next clean and I can visibly see that they have taken our advice on board and improved their oral hygiene habits.”
Kelly BirdDental Hygienist
Kelly graduated with a Diploma of Dental Hygiene in 2004 by undertaking studies between the University of Adelaide and the Torrens Valley Campus. Kelly has over 15 years experience in the dental industry.
Kelly’s role as a Dental Hygienist is to compliment the dentist by carrying out tasks such as scale and cleans, oral hygiene instruction, prevention and monitoring of gum disease and tooth whitening.  Kelly is very passionate about her role as a Dental Hygienist and volunteers her time in the community and developing countries.
Dr. Shimal PatelBDS (Lon) MJDF RCS England
Shimal recently joined our practice in February 2015. She qualified from King’s College London in 2010 with the high commendation certificate for the John McLean award.
On completion of her first year in general practice in Central London, Shimal went on to further her qualifications by working as a Senior House Officer at Guy’s Hospital. She was offered positions in both Restorative and Oral Surgery departments. Working directly under consultants has allowed Shimal to develop her existing skills and provide more complex treatments. These include crown, bridge and implant restorative treatments as well as lower wisdom tooth extractions and excisional biopsies.
During her time at Guy’s Hospital, Shimal also sat further examinations set by the Royal College of Surgeons and has been awarded the MJDF (Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties) qualification.
Following another 2 years in general practice, Shimal’s love for travel took over and she took up the opportunity to move to Australia!
Shimal strives to ensure that all of her patients are comfortable and well informed with all aspects of their dental health. She is committed to providing conservative and predictable dental treatments. Shimal enjoys all aspects of Dentistry but has particular interests in Oral Surgery and Endodontics (root canal treatments).
Outside of Dentistry, Shimal enjoys skiing, swimming and travelling. She plans to discover as much of Australia as she possibly can.
Dr Herman Singh MohanB.D.S
Dr Herman moved from London to Australia in 2016 and joined the Dental Centre Gladstone team in 2017. Having graduated 4 years ago from King’s College London with multiple awards for professionalism, being the Events organiser for the dental school, and being involved in many charity fund raising events, he enjoys a calm and organised approach to his work.
He enjoys all aspects of dentistry, and appreciated the huge impact on a person’s wellbeing and confidence that teeth can have – not just treating a tooth but whole patient care is key to his approach. He enjoys keeping up with the latest techniques in dentistry, and takes the time to explain all aspects and options with the patient, ensuring that the importance of good habits for prevention are emphasised. He particularly enjoys the restorative, periodontal and paediatric sides of dentistry.
In his spare time, charity fundraising and keeping fit with activities such as swimming, running, cycling and the gym are important to him. He is frequently described as friendly and approachable, as well as extremely patient.
