As well as special interests in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, Priya has a passion for paediatric dentistry: “My special interest in paediatric dentistry arose as I believe that advice and preventative treatment is key to stopping the next generation from facing the same dental problems as us. As for cosmetic and restorative dentistry, I find great satisfaction in moulding a broken-down tooth into a functional and aesthetic one. Our smiles are one of the most important ways that we project ourselves to the world – helping to restore them is one of the most satisfying things that you can do.” She has also completed courses in the restoration of implants and oral sleep appliances for obstructive sleep apnoea.
Priya is fully committed to ensuring a relaxed and friendly environment in which she can offer all of her patients the best quality dentistry.
“People seem to be unsure of the limitations of their oral hygienist and oral therapist – Dental Hygienists are trained to provide treatment to adults and children including root debridement, scales and cleans, fissure sealants and oral health education. Dental Therapists are trained to provide dental treatment to children from age 4-15 including fillings, extractions of baby teeth, scaling and cleaning and oral health education.”
She endeavours to provide a positive and pleasant experience for patients, with thorough treatments and adapted information according to each individual’s needs, and aims to improve patients’ knowledge of oral health.
“There are so many products out there claiming to help your oral status that it is tricky to know which ones work, or how to use them – as part of their treatment, I go over this with my patients and discuss ways that each individual can make changes. There is nothing more rewarding than a patient returning for their next clean and I can visibly see that they have taken our advice on board and improved their oral hygiene habits.”
Kelly’s role as a Dental Hygienist is to compliment the dentist by carrying out tasks such as scale and cleans, oral hygiene instruction, prevention and monitoring of gum disease and tooth whitening. Kelly is very passionate about her role as a Dental Hygienist and volunteers her time in the community and developing countries.
On completion of her first year in general practice in Central London, Shimal went on to further her qualifications by working as a Senior House Officer at Guy’s Hospital. She was offered positions in both Restorative and Oral Surgery departments. Working directly under consultants has allowed Shimal to develop her existing skills and provide more complex treatments. These include crown, bridge and implant restorative treatments as well as lower wisdom tooth extractions and excisional biopsies.
During her time at Guy’s Hospital, Shimal also sat further examinations set by the Royal College of Surgeons and has been awarded the MJDF (Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties) qualification.
Following another 2 years in general practice, Shimal’s love for travel took over and she took up the opportunity to move to Australia!
Shimal strives to ensure that all of her patients are comfortable and well informed with all aspects of their dental health. She is committed to providing conservative and predictable dental treatments. Shimal enjoys all aspects of Dentistry but has particular interests in Oral Surgery and Endodontics (root canal treatments).
Outside of Dentistry, Shimal enjoys skiing, swimming and travelling. She plans to discover as much of Australia as she possibly can.
