TOWNSVILLE-based dental group 1300 SMILES Ltd has consolidated on last year's stellar results to report an 8.6 per cent rise in net profit to $2.3 million for the six months to December 31.

The interim dividend has soared 20 per cent to 6.5c per share fully franked.

Managing director Daryl Holmes said it was an exciting result.

''Our net profit after tax for this half year is nearly equal to that of our full year result for 2008,'' he said.

''The big gains of the previous year have been well and truly incorporated into our business.

''It is evident that our new larger scale is a secure base for further growth.''

Dr Holmes said the high revenue growth for last year's first half of 58 per cent created a very high base against which the current half year was measured.
