The federal government incentive “Teen Dental Plan” provided through Medicare to eligible families continues in 2010.

Vouchers providing $157 value for preventative dental health check includes oral examination, and where applicable the provision of x rays, scaling and cleaning, fissure sealants, fluoride treatment and or other preventative advice and instruction.

To be eligible for the vouchers, teens must be aged between 12-17 and be receiving a Youth Allowance or Abstudy, or, if the teen’s parents are receiving the Family Tax Benefit A.

The Medicare Teen Dental Plan has been initiated to provide financial assistance to eligible families to help assess the health of their teenagers’ teeth, and to introduce preventative strategies to encourage lifetime good oral health habits.

Parents are reminded that teenagers are at a particularly vulnerable period of their lives when they can be highly susceptible to oral disease such as decay and gum disease for a variety of reasons and so are urged to make use of their opportunity to access this free voucher.

The Medicare Teen Dental Plan funding allows for the early detection, intervention and prevention of oral diseases, and if necessary allow the patient to plan for treatment procedures whilst they are still easily managed (Treatment procedures are not covered under this scheme and will attract an additional charge which will be discussed and explained to the client and their parent)
