The Number Of Teeth Is Linked To The Memory

According to the findings of a recent study, there are strong links between the number of teeth and quality of human memory. These conclusions were made by the spacialists of the University of Tromsø in Norway. These members of an international scientific project “Bertula” which involved studying dental problems along with other disorders and changes related to human aging, are certain that the less teeth we have in the mouth, the worse memory we have.
“Bertula” is a very interesting and long-term project which is being supported by the government of small Swedish university town Umeå. This project is running since the year 1988 and involves observing, analyzing and studying various abilities of aging people (a group of volunteers who wish to help scientists proceed with their researches), including their physical condition, mental and cognitive abilities and so on. After several years of observations, Swedish specialists found enough of scientific evidence to the fact that human memory has a tendency to gradually decrease as the number of teeth decreases.
“Human nervous system is arranged very difficult,” says Maud Bergdahl, the professor of the University of Sweden “We know that many organs are connected with each other. Thus any effects on your teeth immediately displayed on the tomographic image of head brain. The worst – a tooth extraction.” The links between the number of teeth and human memory presented by Swedish specialists were confirmed by the findings of Japanese scientists. The experiments with rodents have shown that those animals who have normal number of teeth have less problems when finding meals in the maze compared to the rodents with irregular number of teeth.
